5 Fun Things To Do In Yreka, California

Welcome to Yreka “The Golden City”, the county seat of Siskiyou County. The city of Yreka is situated about 20 miles from the Oregon border in inland California. It’s located in the Shasta Valley at 2,500 feet above sea level about 40 miles from Mt. Shasta City and the majestic Mt. Shasta itself. Yreka sits nestled in between metropolitan Medford, Oregon to the north and Redding, California in the south.

Apart from fantastic scenery, Yreka is also home to Stidham Trucking, Inc.; a trucking company which focuses on transportation and hauling serving the 11 western states, Alberta, and B.C. Canada. We have been around for over five decades and are going strong under new local ownership since 2015. We are currently looking for drivers, if you are interested in working for us, please apply below.

Apart from being home to Stidham Trucking, scenic Yreka is the location of many natural wonders. According to some, Mt., Shasta is the root chakra of the Earth and is, therefore, an important spiritual spot for many tourists that visit the area.

While in town, however, the West Miner Street Historic District offers a look into the history of the area with many historical buildings dating back more than 100 years and many quaint mom and pop shops such as the Shasta’s Chocolate Emporium and The Wine Bar and Bistro.

The Chocolate Emporium is an old-fashioned candy shop in the likes of Hogsmeade in the Harry Potter universe. They sell homemade caramels, candies, and sport a wide selection of unusual candies and chocolates. On top of that, they also make their own ice cream and milkshakes at an affordable price, and you can’t beat the taste!

There’s also beautiful Greenhorn Park. A large landscaped park circling a great body of water that used to supply the drinking water for the town back when Yreka was much smaller. There are plenty of trails leading up into the foothills which are great for walking your dog or exercising. Gold was found in these parts back in the day and there still exists old mining equipment situated around the park for visitors to learn about the prosperous golden history of Yreka.

Last but not least, there’s the Siskiyou County Museum which has interesting history displays to showcase Yreka’s mining era. It is a very interesting spot to visit if you want to learn more about the rich history of this area in Northern California.
